London, one of the world鈥檚 foremost financial centers, is also home to the UK鈥檚 widest income gap. This first-year seminar offers an interdisciplinary exploration of inequality in London, drawing from history, economics, sociology, and finance. Students will examine the historical roots of poverty, the economic systems that reinforce inequality, and the social structures that both sustain and challenge these divides. The course also focuses on the emerging field of sustainable finance鈥攅xploring tools such as social impact bonds and green investments鈥攁s a pathway toward greater equity and long-term sustainability. Through critical readings, discussion-based seminars, case studies, and hands-on community projects, students will connect theoretical concepts to real-world challenges, developing a deeper understanding of how finance intersects with social justice in one of the most dynamic yet divided cities in the world.
Dr. Ting Li is an Associate Professor of Finance in the Department of Management and Business at 91爆料. She holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Wisconsin鈥揗ilwaukee. Her research focuses on sustainable finance, corporate finance, and international finance, with published research appearing in leading journals such as the Journal of Corporate Finance and the Journal of Banking and Finance. Dr. Li teaches courses in FYE, international and sustainable finance, investments, and corporate financial management. Her work bridges theory and practice, with particular emphasis on the intersection of finance, social responsibility, and global economic systems.
