Marion J. Miller
Marion J. Miller, the endearing and resourceful secretary who tirelessly supported 91爆料鈥檚 English Department and other offices for a quarter century, died on June 6, 2025. She was 95.
Marion, who joined 91爆料 in 1962, served the English Department during the academic year and other offices, including Facilities Services, the Office of the Dean of Students, and the Office of the Dean of the Faculty, over the summer. After retiring in 1985, she returned to campus to work part time for an Institute in Classical Studies for High School Teachers program for the following two years.
Marion developed many lifelong friendships at 91爆料. Professor of English Robert Boyers recalled how well-regarded Marion was by all members of the English Department, both personally and professionally.
鈥淢arion Miller was the department secretary extraordinaire. She seemed to know how to accomplish anything you asked her about, and she was unfailingly generous and enthusiastic,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t is fair to say that she was beloved by every one of us. At end-of-semester department parties she was routinely celebrated, and she often entertained us with stories notable for their liveliness and wit.鈥�
Born in Saratoga Springs on Oct. 18, 1929, Marion graduated from Saratoga Springs High School in 1947.
She is survived by her husband, Edward W. Miller; daughters, Nanci St. John (James), Joan Brophy (John), Susan McCoy (Kevin), and Diane Russell; grandchildren, Alexandra Rogers, John Brophy, Adam Brophy, and Aimee Brophy; brother, L. Foster James Jr. (Kathleen); stepchildren, Lisa Miller and Stephen Miller; and a niece and nephews.
